Roland Cube 40GX Electric Guitar Combo Amplifier

Building on the success of previous generations of Cube amp, the Roland Cube-40GX Guitar Amplifier pushes the boundaries further and even comes with connectivity for Apple iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), so you can utilise a library of apps, including the new, free to download, Roland app; Cube Jam.

Crammed with 40-watts of power, blasting through a custom-designed 10-inch speaker, the Roland Cube-40GX is fit for multiple purposes. Of course its not just raw power that makes the Cube such an easy choice. The amp harnesses COSM technology to offer 11 amp types, along with three independent channels, including the programmable Solo channel, all of which can be switched via onboard controls or via a foot controller.

MULTI-PURPOSE COMBO AMPLIFIER

Along with its 40-watt power rating and 10” speaker, the Roland Cube 40GX Guitar Amplifier has been outfitted with a slightly larger cabinet compared to its predecessors, for improved performance without weighting the amp down. The amp retains its compact design and is easy to carry, making it the perfect amp for small venues and rehearsals, where you want something rugged and reliable without losing out on tone.

The Roland Cube-40GX’s compact size and wide range of usable tones and effects also makes it an excellent recording amp, and is simple to hook up to your computer or recording device with its Recording Out/Phones jack, which mutes the speaker when connected. Of course, you can also use this output for silent practice sessions by connecting a pair of headphones.

THREE INDEPENDENT CHANNELS

The Roland Cube-40GX Guitar Amplifier is seriously versatile with three channels (JC Clean, Lead, Solo) arming you for any musical genre.

JC Clean replicates the coveted sound of the JC-140, and gives you an independent volume control.

Lead gives you ten tones to choose from: Acoustic Simulator, Black Panel, DLX Combo, Brit Combo, Tweed, Classic, Metal Stack, R-Fier, Extreme & Dyna Amp

Solo is fully programmable; letting you store custom amp, EQ and effects set-ups, to be instantly recalled when you need them.

FOOTSWITCH CONTROL

The channels above can all be selected via the amp’s onboard controls, or for uninterrupted performances and more control; you can connect a Boss GA-FC Foot Controller (sold separately). With its set of six switches, this addition will allow you to select amp channels and turn effects on and off without touching the amp. You can even add a couple of expression pedals for finite control of input and master volumes, and it doesn’t even require an AC power adapter; just connect it to the Roland Cube-40GX with the included stereo ¼-inch cable. If you don’t need such dexterous control, or you have a BOSS FS-5U or FS-6 knocking around you can use either of these footswitches to flick between channels.

EFFECTS SECTION, EQ AND TUNER

The Roland Cube-40GX enjoys a generous offering of effects, with three independent sections: EFX, Delay and Reverb. EFX is comprised of five stompbox-type effects, Delay has two delay types, along with a Tap button to quickly set your delay, and Reverb gives you the choice of vintage spring emulation and a studio-style plate reverb types. These are outlined below:

EFX: Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Heavy Octave

Delay: Warm, Clear (and Tap tempo button)

Reverb: Spring, Plate

In addition to all these effects, the amp is also equipped with a 3-band EQ and an onboard chromatic/manual tuner.

BUILT-IN INTERFACE FOR IOS DEVICES

New to the Roland Cube-40GX Guitar Amplifier is the i-Cube Link interface. This addition allows you to fully integrate your iOS device’s (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) apps and music library into your playing. The included cable allows two-way communication between amp and device; so you can play music through the amp’s speaker, play along using all the tones and effects on offer, while recording them with an app.

For those without an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch the i-Cube Link interface also doubles up as a stereo input; allowing you to connect an audio player or device to the amp to play along to.

ROLAND CUBE JAM

Along with the ability to connect an iOS device to the Roland Cube40GX, Roland have created Roland Cube Jam; a free app that allows you take make full benefit of this new feature, with its jamming, recording and learning functions.

Your commercial and minus-one tracks can played through the Roland Cube-40GX amp with your device, and recording your session is easy with the app’s one-touch recorder. You can then export your results to a usable 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV file.

The Cube Jam app is also a really useful learning tool, as, along with the recording feature, it allows you to alter the speed and pitch of audio playback, so you can practice parts slowly and speed them up once you’ve got them down. This is alongside the Centre Cancel function that allows you to remove solos
